Instagram is the perfect platform to discover stunning destinations and give a strong hit of wanderlust. This list might be slightly unrealistic, in that money or real life might stand in the way of hitting all of these places by the time 2019 rings in, but there are lots of fabulous locations that might inspire your summer vacation or to beat those winter blues. Think of it as your ultimate 2018 travel wish list!
So without further ado, this is our ultimate 2018 dreamy travel wishlist…
A road trip through Scotland is high up on both my 2018 travel wish list, and what a perfect introduction to travel for our new baby, Archer. With the comfort blanket of our car filled with everything baby could possibly need, this really would be the best starter trip as new parents. From the rolling landscapes to the beautiful gothic city of Edinburgh, there is so much I can’t wait to explore in Scotland. This perfect pink castle, Craigievar Castle, is a stunning destination for every luxury backpacker’s Scotland itinerary.
The Blue Lagoon, Iceland, is the perfect wintery getaway for those who don’t ski but fancy a cold destination, or who have little ones (over 2s only). Don’t let January and February get you down, and instead plan a sneaky getaway to Iceland and enjoy this stunning place in the winter months for a truly magical experience.
As a slightly further afield trip but still well within our comfort zone, Ireland is next on the list for 2018. Uri is desperate to go, and I haven’t been for many years and so a trip back is definitely overdue. Dublin is a fun city for young travellers, but with a little one we would like to venture further afield and explore rural Ireland.
I can’t remember writing a travel wish list where Morocco wasn’t on it. Hopefully I will finally get to cross it off this year, and have my dream of visiting both Africa and Morocco fulfilled. I think Morocco would be the perfect first big trip with baby, as it isn’t too far to travel to from the UK and yet the culture is so significantly different. This stunning private guesthouse is the perfect spot for luxury backpackers (LB readers get £25 off their first stay with Airbnb, including this guesthouse, with this link.)
Uriel is from California, and so a trip to visit his family is definitely on the cards for 2018. Last time we visited we drove up the coast from LA as far as Santa Barbara, where I fell head over heels in love with Carpintería. As well as going back there, I’d love to venture further this time and hit San Francisco and journey across its iconic Golden Gate Bridge.
My best friend lives here and I’ve been itching to go for a weekend away, and soak up some of that Scandinavian charm. There is nothing better than having my very own tour guide either! We plan to try and go in the summertime to avoid those incredibly short winter days, and instead make the most of the long summer ones instead. How adorable is this windmill? Definitely one for the 2018 travel goals list!
Another family based trip, we can’t wait to show Archer Mexico (he’s half Mexican American) and introduce him to his family. I travelled through Mexico about ten years ago and was itching to go back as soon as I left. What a wonderful excuse to finally make that happen by showing the beauty and colour of this wonderful country to a child. We would like to go to the Pacific coast this year and explore some of its stunning coastal towns, such as the cool surfer town Sayulita.
As both a wine and a France lover, Bordeaux is somewhere I have fantasised about visiting for a long while. Nothing beats a dreamy weekend away filled with wine, cheese, stunning scenery and a small luxury hotel such as this one. Hire a car and venture through some of rural France, and spend your evenings sipping red wine and reading that book you’ve been meaning to start.
A winter break to one of the ultimate luxury backpacking destinations, Thailand, could be just the thing you need to de-stress and escape for a while. As photographer Lulu suggests in this Instagram post, don’t waste your days lying on the beach, but instead revitalise by getting a good workout in exploring Phuket’s steep, rocky shorelines. You’ll definitely earn your happy-hour cocktails that way!
Cinque Terre, Italy
Even a light user of Instagram will most likely have seen this iconic view on their feed. Pronounced “cheenkwa terre”, it is easy to see why it is such an instagrammed destination, with its stunning candy-coloured buildings and turquoise waters dotted with fishing boats. Summer might bring the gorgeous weather, but I plan on visiting the ‘five lands’ in Spring or Autumn to avoid the crowds.
