A Glamorous V.I.P Night In London (for under £200!)

luxury backpacking london

One of the most fabulous nights I had in London was when my friend Gareth and I decided to have the V.I.P night of our dreams, including cocktails at the infamous Wolseley, Phantom of the Opera at the theatre, and dinner at the one and only Ritz… and without breaking the bank. We dined next to fashion V.I.P herself Anna Wintour, and had champagne waiting for us as the interval at the theatre… it was a magical evening through and through.

If a night of full on London glamour is something you dream about, here is your itinerary, and how to do it on a relatively low budget for London!

Your Glamorous London Itinerary

Dress Code:

For most of the below their are dress codes (The Wolseley, The Ritz) and therefore this is certainly a day to bring out the dresses and heels (no jeans allowed at the Ritz). I wore: Peach crepe dress: Miss Selfridge, Lace jacket: The Kooples, White heels: ASOS.

The Wolseley – 3:30pm

The Wolseley, in Mayfair is FABULOUS. From their divine afternoon tea, to their marble-clad art deco dining room, to their handsome suited waiters, it is hands down one of the most famously luxurious spots in London. You will most certainly be surrounded by glamorous folk.

Whilst dining at the Wolseley is naturally rather pricey, their bar area, which hosts just a few tables, is a perfect way to experience the grandeur without blowing your travel budget. Slip in during the early afternoon and you will most likely get a table in the bar with no reservation.

What To Drink

Their classic champagne cocktail.

Champagne and dinner at the Ritz – 5pm

Almost next door is the grand doorway to your dinner location. Overlooking Green Park, The Ritz is famously known as one of the most beautiful restaurants in Europe. Dining here is a must-do on your luxury trip to London, and should be on everyones culinary bucket list. The doormen greet you first, opening the door for you and making you instantly feel like a celebrity.

LOVE Theatre do an excellent pre-theatre dinner package which includes your theatre tickets, champagne and dinner at the Ritz for just over £100!

On arrival you will be served a glass of champagne whilst you marvel at your surroundings. Your dinner will be a choice from the sample menu, which had a really good selection. The food is exquisite, and the service is second to none – your waiter will be more than helpful when guiding you with your choices and recommending wine.

My favourite things about the Ritz

The bathrooms (!), the chandeliers, the pastel hues, the striped chair fabric, the beautiful tiffany-blue chinaware, the painted ceilings, the list goes on…

Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty’s Theatre – 6:30pm

Phantom of the Opera is one of the most widely known musicals, and is definitely one to watch for a classic evening in London. From the wonderful soundtrack to the dramatic sets, it is an exciting production from start to finish. Her Majesty’s Theatre is one of my favourite theatres in the West End. It is really intimate and glamorous, with plush red velvet seats and a beautiful ceiling, it is certainly one of the most glamourous playhouses in London.

If you prefer something different, LOVE theatre offers similar dinner and play packages for a whole host of musicals, such as The Lion King, Les Miserables, The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time, and Dreamgirls.

V.I.P Tip

Reserve your half bottle of champagne or prosecco for the interval when you first arrive. That way you can drift from your seats into the bar and have your bubbly waiting for you, no queuing necessary!

If you are keen for an after-theatre drink, I recommend walking the short distance into Soho, where there are an abundance of quirky gay bars and clubs. My favourites are Cafe Boheme, which is a bustling French bistro and wine bar – simple, with a touch of glamour; and The Friendly Society, for a which is a very unique downstairs bar and perfect for a quiet after-theatre chat (check out the Barbie dolls on the ceiling!).

Where to Stay

I had an apartment in london, but for those who wish to stay overnight, you don’t have to shell out hundreds for a glamorous hotel. There are so many hostels and low-budget hotels in London, and many of them have very chic interiors and private rooms rather than dorm rooms. These are my picks for the area for every budget (which won’t leave you ubering/tubing all over town).

I had no idea the Ritz had a theatre package! That price is super reasonable. And that champagne cocktail looks delish!

Love your dress and jacket! Looks like you had a great night. Anything under £200 in London is a bargain to be honest so I’m v impressed you got such a posh night out for it!

What a fabulous deal! We dined at the Ritz last year (celebrating everything and nothing at all hahah who needs an excuse) and absolutely loved it – we went all out on the tasting menu, there was singing and dancing, I have never felt like such a princess!

It really was such a good deal! The Ritz is a truly special place… and you really don’t need an excuse to have a night like that 😉
