Carry-On Book of The Week: The Nest

The Nest by Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney is the book we will be packing in our carry-on bag this weekend…

The Nest is a superbly written debut novel about four adult siblings, and the fate of their shared inheritance which both brings them together and tears them apart. It is warm, sharply perceptive, and extremely funny.

Why We Loved It…

From the scandalous beginning, throughout, and especially in it’s conclusion, the plumb family are both like and unlike every other family you might know, which is what makes it so readable.  There are the laugh out loud moments, there are the teary moments, and there is a lot of witty dialogue in-between.

The last chapter of this book was so beautifully written, Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney cleverly managed to bring the story together without creating a cliche ending.

I found I was, overtime, completely addicted to the Plumb family and their dysfunctional lives. What a well written, smart and impressive book.
